Malaysia, Lanchang – A Visit to Elephant Rescue Station

Published: 18.4.2020
The sobering-up station provides sanctuary for elephants who have fallen into poacher traps or other difficulties. They use their own elephants, who are very ethically trained here (do not really expect any circus, here it helps). Injured elephants are undergoing rehabilitation and, if possible, their return to nature. The station also takes care of moving elephants due to the ever-increasing agricultural area. The employees are doing a really beautiful job here, be sure to come to support them.

At the station you can go on your own or by bus. It leaves approximately every hour from Pekelilingb bus station and the journey takes less than two hours. Tickets are purchased at several stops at the stops. Do not be afraid to ask the locals about the bus and stop numbers, they will be happy to advise you and guide you. The bus itself goes to Lanchang, but the station is a few kilometers further. Grab no longer works here, but you don't have to worry. A local taxi driver will find you here, so he will wait for you at the bus stop. Although you may be a little scared at first, his exterior and taxi (red punker clear, the car has been over for many years), do not be afraid to go with him. The Lord is very communicative, has a large family with whom he lives near the stop in Lanchang, and almost invites you to their home for dinner. Although we were very distrustful and afraid, in the end we decided and it was really worth it. Don't worry, you will have an absolutely authentic Malay home experience. The kids speak great English, show you their buffaloes and the typical fruit trees behind them and talk about life in Europe compared to Malaysia. The Lord does not expect any extra money at all. He will then take you on a bus back to Kuala Lumpur in time. He charges 60 RM for traveling to and from the elephant station. The locals are nice, don't be afraid to meet them.

trochu jiná zahrada

The station itself was a very nice surprise for us. There is no admission fee, which is because the locals would not come here otherwise. However, you can donate any donation to local elephants. Certainly we recommend using a 120 CZK (less than 700 CZK) educational guide. She speaks great English and tells you everything. The whole interpretation is definitely very interesting. In addition, the guide will take you closer to the elephants you feed and then help prepare the papaya for their afternoon snack. If the river level is good, there is the possibility of swimming with the elephants. Certainly do not hesitate, without a guide it is not it.

However, if you go on your own, do not forget to take the program at the entrance (it is also available on the Internet). Various activities take place during certain times of the day - bathing and feeding of elephants, performance of elephants, short film, etc. Among other things, there are many educational boards in the whole area.

Outside the closed part of the ship, unfortunately, there is not much room for comfortable long journey. The island can also be transported by air, such as from Penang and Kuala Lumpur.
