Published: 26.7.2020
The unique combination of vineyards and Mediterranean botany is simply not seen. However, you can easily find this connection in Pezinok, in the Stará hora wine region. We are talking about a unique lavender garden, which attracts hundreds of visitors and wine lovers every year.

One of the most important wine regions in Slovakia has thus become even more exceptional. This is where the popular and high-quality Riesling is born, and blue-violet lavender blooms nearby.

Mediterranean Atmosphere in Slovakia

The lavender garden is the result of the honest work of the scientist and agrochemist Vladimír Píš, who built it for 20 years. Together with his relatives, he was able to grow a garden that is unparalleled in Slovakia. It could be said that they brought the Mediterranean to Slovakia. As you walk through this garden, you will feel like you are in one of the Mediterranean countries. Lavender is not the only plant that visitors can admire here. There are also pomegranates, pine trees, Haleb pines, figs and many other unique plants.

The upper parts of Stará hora had a Mediterranean potential, which Píš managed to use. Thermophilic plants survive the whole winter here every year. It is not only the result of the fact that it is warming in Slovakia, but mainly honest and tireless work has its significant share in the state of the lavender garden.

Unique Area with Unique Wine

On Stará Hora, not only the lavender garden thrives, but especially the vineyards. This area is the birthplace of the popular Riesling, which also has a protected designation of origin. If this wine gets into your hands, you can be sure that you maintain the quality.

If you would also like to see this lavender garden, there is a Wine and Lavender event every year, where you can taste wines from local winemakers. The Pezinok lavender garden should definitely not be missing from your list of places worth visiting. Come and see for yourself!
