Spain: Sunny Holidays in Pineda de Mar - VIDEO
Spain is known for its rich and quality gastronomy, excellent red wine, historical gems, monuments, golden sandy beaches, lively and eloquent locals enjoying the sunny weather dancing to the rhythm of flamenco.
The kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula has a lot to offer tourists. Up to a quarter of visitors to Spain make it a point to head to Catalonia, an autonomous region in the north-east of the country. We'll be no exception and head to the coast of El Maresme, which is characterised by its beautiful beaches and clear sea.
Our location is the picturesque seaside town of Pineda de Mar, about 55 km north of Barcelona (between Calella and Santa Susanna). The history of this resort dates back to the 13th century and the historic centre is a memento of these ancient times, with monuments with a medieval touch.
Pineda de Mar is situated right on a beautiful long and wide sandy beach, boasting a blue flag for the cleanliness of the sea and the beach. Although the Spanish resort is one of the smaller and quieter locations, you'll find a promenade with modern hotels and services, along with bars and discos. So you won't be bored! The friendly atmosphere, the regularly held markets together with the diverse surrounding nature are ideal for any holidaymaker.
You can take a tourist train around the town, and a modern high-speed train will take you to nearby resorts and Barcelona. Sights to see include the historic mid-15th-century Santa Maria Church, which features graphic mosaics on its façade, and the imposing octagonal tower with its elongated windows and bell tower. There are also the remains of the Roman aqueduct of Cal Cua, chapels, various artistic depictions and historic houses and villas.
For water lovers, there's a water park as well as the sea, and for those who like lounging on the beach, we recommend relaxing on Playa de la Pineda, located next to the train station and the palm tree promenade. Plus, there's a gradual entrance to the sea, which parents with young children will appreciate.
After dark, Pineda de Mar comes alive. If you're lucky, you'll also experience a fiesta with flamenco dancing, singing, fireworks, carousels and plenty of food, drink and food stalls.
The dynamically developing resort also offers hiking and cycling trips to the surrounding area, such as the Montnegre y el Corredor Nature Park. So if you want to enjoy a pleasant holiday and relaxation, Pineda de Mar is definitely the right choice.
