US, Arizona: The Sacred Town of Sedona
Phoenix is the capital of Arizona and is located at the heart of the state. When driving down the road no 17 you reach beautiful town of Sedona (you need to turn to the road no 179 to Village of Oak Creek) . The Sedona area is famous for amazing red and orange sandstone formations which create background to the town. These formation have different shades of red and orange in different periods of the day. There are numerous possibilities to make trips in the surroundings. Also bikers who love steep trails enjoy Sedona. There are many bike tracks of higher difficulty around here. Those who love wild rides in a jeep can enjoy it as well. All necessary information is available at visitors´ center in the town.
Sedona is considered one of the most beautiful places in the U.S. The red background is not the only thing adding to its atmosphere. There are also small stores, restaurants, stands, spa, galleries and so on. Just taking a walk in the city distorts your sense of time and let your worries go. Native Americans consider Sedona a sacred place. Therefore, it is considered a great place for spiritual healing. Many people come here to experience the flow of energy enclosing the town, allegedly. There is one of the most popular buildings in Arizona – the Holy Cross chapel (south of the town). It was constructed in 1956. It stands on a red rock and is 20 meters high.
If you are charged with energy already and you want to make let yourselves go a bit and cool down your warm body go north. Turn to Slide Rock State Park. The admission varies according to a car you have and season you come in (between 10 to 20 dollars). The name itself makes it clear that rocks here are quite slippery. Be careful when crossing water in this red canyon. The river is the main attraction here and people love to swim in it. Water and red rocks will amaze you. There are public toilets in the park, a souvenir store, places for picnic and also there are nature trails such as Slide Rock Route, Clifftop Nature Trail and Pendley Homestead Trail.
Red Rock State Park is another park near Sedona. It is popular among people who love walking for there are many routes to choose from. The most popular ones are Smoke Trail, Bunkhouse Trail, Kisva Trail and Eagle´s Nest Trail. These trails will walk you through local terrain.
