USA, Alabama – Sweet Home Alabama II
Before we continue, we must mention some of the Alabama 'best'. This year you have surely noticed that the jubilee was celebrated 60 years since the first humans landed on the moon, and Alabama had a lion's share in this because the local workers had built a rocket that allowed N. Armstrong and B. Aldrin to stand on the moon.
For example, the first electric tram in the world was put into operation in the capital - Montgomery, which we can get to right away. The Confederation of States of the American South, was also declared here, which stood up against the North, causing the American Civil War.
The city lies on the east bank of the Alabama River. As Montgomery is so closely linked to the fight for human rights, one of the main sights in the city is of course the human rights monument. Its dominant part is black granite, engraved with the words "until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream", which can be loosely translated as "until justice rolls like water and honesty as a massive stream". There is a black granite disc beneath the wall, on whose surface water is pouring and the names of those who fell in the name of the fight for human rights are engraved into it. The memorial stands in an open area next to the Civil Rights Memorial Center. There are also many information boards that will enable you to deepen your own knowledge of human rights issues.
An important place to remember the period of the fight for human rights is the Rosa Parks Library and Museum in downtown Montgomery. Rosa Parks was one of the most prominent figures in the protest against racial segregation, and is known for refusing to vacate a white guy on the bus, which led to her arrest and subsequent strong civil protests.
Today we will take you to the local Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, which will present more than four thousand works of art from the 18th century to the present, with a strong representation of local artists. In addition, you will see paintings, sculptures, furniture, masks, textiles and other forms of art from Europe and Africa. One of the main attractions of the museum is a gallery of decorative art, including domestic and foreign porcelain and glass products from the workshops of such masters as Tiffany Studios or Dale Chihuly.
