USA, Washington – Winthrop
Winthrop is a charming mountain town located in the Methow Valley. The surroundings are beautiful mountains and there is often sunny weather. The city has only 500 inhabitants and life is carried in the spirit of the old Wild West. Every year, thousands of tourists come here, who want to get to know mainly nature, but also local museums. There is an extensive network of hiking trails around the city, regardless of whether you arrive in summer or winter. You can enjoy it here in any season.
In winter, for example, 200 km of Methow Trails await you. It is therefore not surprising that cross-country skiers like it very much. In the area around Winthrop, we recommend crossing the Spring Creek Bridge and exploring what is on the other side. If you just arrive here when there is no snow, go hiking or cycling.
Explore Winthrop itself. As we mentioned above, the breath of the Wild West breathes on you in the city. The city did not find its current form until the 1970s. Enjoy a walk along the main street, which will take you to the beginning of the 20th century. Some historic houses only have facades, but some also offer historic interiors, such as Farmers State Bank.
Máte rádi knihy? Na své si přijdete v knihkupectví Trail's End Bookstore. Pokud byste chtěli poznat něco z místního umění, pak své kroky nasměrujte do Winthrop Gallery, která rovněž vystavuje díla regionálních umělců.
If you would like to immerse yourself a little more in history, then we have another tip for you. On the hill above the Methow River you will find the Shafer Historical Museum, which offers a fantastic journey through the history of Winthrop. The main building of the museum is a historic log cabin, which was built at the end of the 19th century.
Various historical objects are exhibited around the cabin, dating from the 1980s to the 1940s. Part of the museum is also a small village, which is to bring this period closer.
