The chateau is situated in a community of the same name, at the edge of Křivoklát Forests. It was built in 1589, when Emperor Rudolph II. obtained Lány. He let to make a reconstruction from former stronghold to hunting chateau. In 1733, the chateau was owned by Furstenberg Parentage, and they changed it into today´s face. In 1921, Czechoslovak State bought the chateau, and the building became a summer seat of all Presidents of Czechoslovakia and Czech Republic. The chateau was arranged by Josip Plecnik, Slovenian architect. President T. G. Masaryk stayed here quite often and with pleasure, and met many important personalities here.
In a community, you can visit car - museum and local cemetery, where T. G. Masaryk, the first President of Czechoslovakia, is buried. Lány chateau serves as President´s residence. Local park and chateau church in Baroque style (work of Frank Ignatz Pree) important builder, are open for public.
