Lysá nad Labem-Čelákovice
Nerby the river: Elbe
Near to the town of Lysá nad Labem, there was situated the oldest Slavonic colonized piece of ground of 5th century in meadow forests. In 1307, Count Jaromir was imprisoned and later also killed in Lysá. Later, a Gothic castle was changed from this Count seat. Bohemian Queens, Anne Svidnice and Elizabeth Přemyslovna became owners of this castle. However, the castle was destroyed by fire during Hussite wars. Anyway, later, it was adapted as a summer seat of King Rudolph II. In 1647, the whole dominion was bought by Sporck Parentage. During rule of Frank Anthony Sporck, the town and its environs got Baroque face. Chapels, statues as well as hermiatges were being built here. Even today, you can find in Lysá and environs more than 60 statues. In Lysá, you can find a tomb of Frederick Hrozný,he has also a museum here. Local exhibition ground is of great importance. Substantial part of castle outskirts is arranged as English park. You find here more than 90 sorts of wooden trees, however, there are mostly old trees. Anyway, Baroque statues are the unique monuments in park. Most of them were made by sculptor Frantisek Adamek. The paths leads along quarry Ve skále, where limestone chalk mineral rocks, used as building stone, were excavated. These are finding places of interesting fossils (petrifications). School director Krauskopf found here great bones in 1899. He informed A.Frič from Prague National Museum. He described it as rests of sea dragons. Anyway, we are of the opinion that there were rests of Plesiosaurus. They died out, as other Dinosaurus, at the end of Secondary formation. In river terraces, there are noticed climatic changes of Quarter formations. At that time, hot and cold periods changed. During cold period, there was dry climate, and river - flow became lower. The water cut with its own alluvions its way ahead. On the other hand, during hot period, when the temperatures were higher as now, the river deepened its bed. So, several regulation interferences had to be made, and regulation of Labe (Elbe) river stopped regular inundations from past. The town of Čelákovice was established on a place of old community. In 1290, there is a mention about as of King´s small town. Anyway, the face of the town changed at the end of 19th century. Water mill, placed on Elbe and Virgin Mary Romanesque church belong to protected culture monuments.
