Babí lom
Babí lom (Old Woman Quarry) is a hill, situated over the community of Lelekovice, distant approx. 7 kms from the town of Brno. This hill could be boasted of look out tower, which has resolutely its well-fou
ndation, as babí lom is the highest peak in Brno environments.
History:
Rocky ridge of Babí lom is popular excursion place just since 19th century. Originally, there were placed here two wooden view bridges with a chalet, and it was finishing point ot´f tourist trail. Nevertheless, wooden look out tower was substituted later with stone building , however, it was demolished within years of 2nd World War. Within 1959-1961, the tourists from Sokol Lelekovice constructed new look out tower. Festive inauguration was taken place on 15th May 1961. Since 1980, the whole ridge is preserved as nature reservation.
Present time (Actual situation)
Present look out tower is 15 metres high concrete tower with iron gallery. The project was made by Mojmir Korvas, architect. Under favourable weather contitions, you have the possibility to see the communities of Vranov and Lelekovice, the town of Kuřim or even Brno, including Špilberk citadel, under very good conditions even tops of Alps. As to access, it is free of charge, all year round.
