Lookout tower
Poledník Look Out Tower
Poledník Mountain is situated in Bohemian Forest. It is the 15th highest hill-top of the mountain range, placed in distance of 4,5 kms from the community of Prášily. Thanks to glacier activity, there is to be found here a moraine of Prášily Lake and Stará jímka (Old Reservoir) moraine, where the water is missing.
Look out tower
The look out tower was built from former radar-tower, situated inside unaccessible border belt territory. Within 1960-1965, there was constructed here military building, including concrete tower. It was watched and concealed in very severe way and served to air-protection of the state. However, even Prášily Lake was not accessible for public at that time. After a dispute between Bohemia Forest National Park Administration and Czech Tourist Club, there was decided that the tower would be reconstructed and the top could be partially open for public. So, since 1998, the tourists can enjoy unique round view towards all central Bohemia Forest, and even the Alps could be seen under favourable weather conditions.
The tower is 37 metres high, you can mount 227 stages upstairs. The tower has its typical face, with three semi-circular floors in its upper part.
