MacochaMacocha

Macocha abyss  is most known locality of Moravian Karst. It forms a  part of cave system of Punkva Caves. This precipice is to be found in Moravian Karst, Protected Nature Area, in distance of 6 kms from the town of Blansko.

 

MacochaOrigin

Macocha was founded by crash of powerful cave spaces of several floor. So, it forms monumental part of Punkva-river Caves. Its depth reaches 138, 5 m to the level of Low Lake. Below water level, there are hidden further underground spaces, investigated towards total depth of abyss, to 187 metres.

      

MacochaHistory

First written notice aboud descent into abyss comes of 1663. At the beginning of 20th century, Charles Absolon did first investigations here, and his researches led to discovery of Punkva Caves.
