ZOO Garden in Ústí nad Labem is located on slope of Marianská skála, in east direction from city centre.
Beginning
Main role at the establishment of local ZOO garden had Henry Lumpe, businessman and entrepreneur. In 1908, this respected ornitologist bought from the town the estates after former brick-works on slope of Marianska skala, and built here private birds´reservation on surface of 6 ha, known under name of Lumpepark. Later, in 1914, the park was open for public.
History
After 1st World War, an industry started to be spreaded in Ústí nad Labem. Nevertheless, Lumpepark was preserved, thanks to immense support of local population. Big help as well as devotion of workers assisted to maintain the park in operation, even after death of its founder, in 1936.
After 2nd World War, Lumpepark became in state ownership amd ZOO corner for local inhabitants was established. Later, since 1970, the ZOO garden finally had a period of great swing. Its extent was increased up to 26 ha. New pavillons for beast of preys, exotic animals, spaces for elephants, giraffes, rhinoceros, zebras and antelopes were constructed.
