A great destination for everybody who love sand, mountains and don't want to spend their vacation at one place. The country is ruled by an enlightened absolute ruler Sultan Kabus. Islam is the main religion. There live about 2 million Omanis and another 2 million foreign workers mostly from India or Pakistan.
Oman is one of the most fascinating countries of the Arabian Peninsula, which I had the opportunity to visit. Already at the airport in Muscat, we are surprised by the cleanliness, pomp and kind nature of the local people. The capital has a population of about 4.5 million, with more than a third of Oman's population living here. Muscat is the seat of the sultan, government and parliament. Muscat is the political, economic and cultural center of Oman.
The Sultanate of Oman offers many beauties and today we will head to one of the country's most amazing sceneries. If you want to experience a wild adventure in Oman, go to one of the canyons. We chose Wadi Shab, due to its availability south of Muscat and on our way back to Bimmah Sinkhole.
Today we will go back in time together. We will visit the area inland, which is about 2 hours drive from the capital Muscat. These are the ancient towns of Al-Hamra and Misfat Al-Abreyeen. We park and everywhere is deserted and empty.
There are several fortresses you may see in Oman. One of these is situated in Nizwa, a town with famous bazaar and halva stores. Keep in mind that opening hours may vary according to the temperature outside. To have a souk you must be ready to go in the morning. Stores are closed in the afternoon due to high temperatures.
Sur is a beautiful town featuring colonial architecture. It is situated by the sea on several spits of land. There are hills, byas and so on. But don't worry. Locals are ready to help you and get you to the right place. There are no street names in Sur so always ask about a concrete place. There are several markets (such as fish market). Moreover, there is a shippyard featuring many ships under constructions. These resemble ships of the Christopher Columbus era and are hand made. To complete such a ship takes several months of work.
