Slovenia, Logar Valley – Amazing Starting Point for Trekking

Published: 18.5.2017
Logar valley is a beautiful valley in the north of Slovenia. A 6 kilometer long path goes through the valley and ends at the rock of limestone massif. It costs 7 euro to enter the Logar Valley if you travel by car. The entrance gate is situated 4 kilometers northwest from the town of Solcava.

Most of the accomodation facilities are on the halfway through the valley. Stop by at the infocenter in case you have no reservation. Kind staff will tell you where the free rooms are. The visitors' center is lcoated at about first third of the route at the entrance gate.

ÚPeople who like alpine tourism, and calm atmosphere go to the valley in summer. The trail functions as a cross-country track during winter. Great experience. There is no rush, nor large crowds because the valley is very difficult to reach (it is remote to main roads), and there is not enough of accommodations. Available accommodations are usually of the home-like sort. The prices oscillates around 30 euros per person for a night. Some offer sleeping in the hey shed (allegedly this is popular mostly among Czechs). If sleeping inside the hey shed isn't the most comfortable option for you, you can still sleep on a comfy bed. However, our shed had a clean bathroom with hot water, and outside there was a kitchen and chairs to sit on. We payed 12 eur for a person + 1.25 euro tourist tax which has to be payed everywhere. In addition to that, you can ride a horse or on a horse carriage.

The mountains in the southwester section valley rise up to 2000 meters. Planjava is the highest peak (2394 m). The mountain is a part of the greater Kamnik–Savinja Alpsituated in the north of the country. Tourists especially like to climb Strelovec (1 763 m), Krofis  v jihozápadní části údolí mají okolo 2 000 m s nejvyšším vrcholem Planjava 2 394 m. Patří do pohoří Kamnik–Savinja Alps na severu země. Nejvíce turisty láká výstup na Strelovec (1 763 m), Kroficka (2 083 m), and Kamnisko Sedlo (1 864 m). The first two climb routes pass by Klemenca Jama cabin (jama means cave but there is none around). The cabin is located on the southern slope at an altitude of 1 208 m, and you reach it in about an hour of climbing. There are drinks, and sometimes food on offer. It costs 25 euro to stay over night + breakfast which takes place in a large common hall. It seems that the trail goes only uphill and be no mistaken, there are no vistas whatsoever along the trail because the trees prevent you to see anything. The road splits after about an hour of hiking. Strelovec is to the left (30 minutes), and Kroficka to the right (1,5 hour).

We chose to go to the right to Kroficka. Soon after we could enjoy a view over the valley, this fueled us to go on and finish the climb. The trail narrows as it goes between the rocks. Mountain pines, and different flowers line the way. All of a sudden you find yourselves among the mountain giants. You can even recognize Austrian mountains. The last section is very difficult. There is a rope, and iron cramps to help you. Finally, after 3 and half hours of endless climb we reached our destination - the peak of Kroficka, a two thousand meters high mountain. Unfortunatelly, the rain we had spotted far away from us earlier, got to Kroficka eventually. Mountains veiled in black clouds looked more dramatic. The first rain drops made us to return for limestone gest pretty slippery when wet. And we knew how steep the upper section of the trail was.

To reach other peaks you need to get to the last part of the trail in the valley. Then you have to go to Rinka, a 90-meter waterfall. The narrow waterfall could be observed from a unique bar which literally towers on the cliff. There you can buy some snacks, and souvenirs, and move on to the mountains.

Logarska Valley is an amazing place in Slovenia. Atmosféru údolí si určitě oblíbíte i vy.

Triglav National Park is one of the most popular spots in Slovenia. Its name comes after country's highest mountain which is located within the park. Tourists mostly take short trips or climb up the very mountain. It is strictly forbidden to take a one day trip up to Triglav's peak, staying over night is also forbidden (and only allowed in mountain cabins). The hike is very difficult. You can take it from different directions though.

We woke up to beautiful, however, calm morning. We ate something, checked our backpack if there were things necessary since we intended to spend the whole day out, and we set out to the lake. That day we decided to visit a church on the island in the middle of the lake and spend the afternoon in the town.

We always just travel throughout Slovenia, maybe the reason was we were in hurry to get to Croatia or on our way back home. Even we have heard a lot about its beauties, we never managed to find few days or hours, at least, to stop and explore. At last, we changed it and a part of a late summer vacation we spent in Slovenia.
