SVK: Bánovce Over Ondava River - The Birthplace Of A Famous Writer
Bánovce you will find in the Košice region between the towns Trebišov and Michalovce. The village lies in the middle of the East Lowlands south of the junction Topla and Ondava rivers.
History
The territory of the municipality Bánovce Ondavou been inhabited since the end of the Late Stone Age and early Bronze Age, as evidenced by the burial site dating from the East. The period of Celtic-Dacian and Slavic, is documented by the settlement site.
The first written mention of the village dates from 1329 and it is the registration document Jager´s chapter.
Bánoviec formation was associated with a defunct community Kupona, which lied on the ground and in place today Bánoviec was found probably majer belonging to the village of Kupona. Due to Ondava that poured out of bed and destroyed the village, its residents decided to settle across the river and Bánovce arose. Kupona till now still reminds original bell from the village, which was placed in Bánoviec belfry.
Sights
In the village there are three important historical monuments: carpentry square bell tower, octagonal Lehot´s funeral chapel, which is part of the newly built Roman Catholic church. The third monument in this small village is the empire Curia - the building block longitudinal central buttress, supported by four Tuscan columns, which has recently undergone refurbishment.
Museum of the famous native son
In Bánovce is nice to visit Literary Museum Paul Horus - the most famous native. The exhibition is located in a former elementary school and has two main thematic areas. The first is the National Artist Pavel Horov, where he is introduced as a poet and a man of deep moral and aesthetic sensibilities. The second unit is called natives of Pavel Horov. In the museum you will find many photographs, excerpts of poems, study room of Horov with the original equipment, portraits of prominent Slovak poets. Upstairs audiovisual hall, where he held lectures and discussions and are reflected there documentaries and fiction films with literary themes.
Micro - region Poondaví
Bánovce Ondavou above, together with 13 other municipalities make microregion Poondavie – group of interests which came fourth June 1996 in order to improve living conditions and socio-economic development and economic growth. Member communities are linked to its history, cultural monuments and natural beauties. Poondaví lies in the middle of the East Lowlands, in the northern passes into Pozdišov hills, west is lined by river Ondava. Municipalities Association combines common history, cultural heritage and natural beauty.
