Published: 11.2.2008
The town of Hranice (Hranice na Moravě) in Přerov district has nearly 20000 inhabitants and is situated in so called „Bečev Gate“, between Odry Hills and Podbeskydy Highlands. The town is placed between rivers of Ludina and Velička, tributaries of Bečva river. Historical nucleus of town was declared as town´s monumental zone.

Along both banks of Bečva river, there is situated Hranice-Karst. By means of  karst-procedures there were founded so called Zbrašov Aragonit Caves and by crash of the whole cave system there was created Hranice-Abyss. This abyss is the deepest in Czech Republic, however, its definitive depth was not measured up to now. On southern part of the town, you find nature reservations Nad Kostelíčkem, Hůrka, Velká a Malá Kobylanka.

The town of Hranice was established probably at the end of 12th century, and since 13th century became an ownership of Premonstrate Order of Hradisko (Olomouc). In 1276, the community was partially arisen, as a town was declared in 1292. Since 15th century, Hranice was in possession of Cimburk Parentage, afterthat Pernstein Parentage. Within 18th and 19th century, in town there were created several administrative offices.

As to town´s monuments: it is a castle of 15th century, constructed by Cimburk Parentage. The castle belongs to the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in Moravia. Further monuments: Old  Town Hall on Masaryk Square. You find now, in this fully reconstructed building, Town´s library and gallery, Basic School of Arts an Info-Centre. On Masaryk Square, it is to be found Parish Church of St.John Baptist Beheading. To church monuments belong, moreover, Evangelist Church, Synagogue and Jewish cemetery.

In Hranice, we find instructive educational path Hůrka, 4 kms long, established for protection of flora, fauna and karst-appearances in 1952. Further, it is instructive educational path Valšovice with forests themes, marked with tourist signs.
