Plumlov

Plumlov is a community situated not far from the town of Prostějov in marvellous countryside, near to the dam of the same name. Plumlov has 2300 inhabitants, first notice comes from 1322.

Twenty years later, Plumlov was declared as a small town. Today, even several possibilities how to spend our leasure time, allures us to Plumlov. In outskirts of the dam, there are to be Chateau Plumlovfound many nice forest paths, suitable for tourist walking as well as for cyclists. Just over the dam, there is a castle, open for public, and there are taken many cultural events during the saison. You can find here two camping places with accommodation possibilities in lodging houses, cottages, in tents, or in caravans.

In neighbouring community of Mostkovice, you find summer cinema, several restaurants, and sportsmen find chance for castle Plumlovtheir activities in volley-ball and minigolf playgrounds. The outskirts is really wonderful, especially in summer. The dam was accesible for bathing for many years. However, actual situation is quite unfavourable as the water is hardly polluted, absolutely unsuitable for bathing and swimming within couple of last saisons. It is true that this fact protects bathing but has no influence for other sporting activities, such as rowing or windsurfing.

From long stone pier, you can see the castle, arising in height on rock above water-level. It seems as if the castle could guard not only the dam but the whole village. Originally, there was middle age castle on this place, enjoying period of top fame within government of Pernstein Parentage, changed with a period of conquest by Estates and Swedish Holy Trinity Churchtroops within 1619-1643. At this time-period, the town as well as the castle, suffered from many damages. The castle was built in 17th century by Jan Adam of Liechtenstein. This active builder did not caught to finish his work, so, there was terminated one wing only (from originally intended four castle-wings). However, this torso was not equipped with a furniture and remained uninhabited. For an aristocracy, there were equipped a couple of rooms, and the officials seated here. In top floor, there is to be found great theater hall decorated with frescos. Unfortunately, the windows and doors were not finished here, so the whole building is waiting for complete reconstruction, which started slowly several years ago.

Very sad destiny accompanied the castle in 1801, when the Plumlov dambuilding was so destroyed after violent gale that Prince Alois of Liechtenstein thought that the building could be demolished. Even today, when you are situated against one building-wing only, you have to admire its sad but proud face. Several floors, with very big windows and airy internal spaces are remembrance of builder´s dreams . He probably had an idea, how rich people would organize their magnificent dancing balls in local extending halls. Since 1994, the castle is in property of the community of Plumlov. It effects the repair works and organises cultural events here. At present, the whole castle is not accessible for public, but the guided tours are taken place and the castle is surely worth for visit.
