SK, Picturesque Town of Cavoj – A Paradise for Those Who Love Nature
Today we visit little town of Cavoj, which is situated in thethe Region of Trencin about 35 kilometers from the district town of Prievidza. The town is hidden in a beautiful nature scenery of Strazov Hills 550 meters above the sea level in the valley of the River Nitrica. This town, which has small population, attracted our attention thanks to its vast housing development along the river and also its beautiful surroundings. Just a walk in the village caused us to feel peace and also summer. Summer weather was the incentive for us to plan at least short trip to local nature.
A walk in the village
We sincerely recommend you a walk in the village, in its central part that locals call Cavojec there is the oldest building. It is the Church of St Dorothy that is over 400 years old. Interesting are indeed houses, particularly those standing alone. Mostly they are uninhabited or used only as cottages. An interesting view of the village is from the local cemetery situated on a hill. Unlike many town cemeteries, this one is really well-maintained.
Trips around
The town of Cavoj has a splendid location to set out trips the town’s vicinity. Local landmark is Mala Magura in 1140 meters above the sea level. It is situated eastwards from the town and a trek there is rather for more advanced travellers. If you seek easy trip, then we would like to recommend you a walk across Bila voda, Cobrial, Koskarovci, Sindliarska, Petriskovci, Sunegovci and Krpelance. At these places, you will see what remains from gold and silver mines. Tourists can also walk across a ridge that would take them to Bojnice. Bojnice Castle and the oldest and the most visited Zoo is known to every Slovak at least from elementary school geography textbook. But if you are rather a tourist that seeks some reward at the end of the trip I would recommend you an ascend on Vapenec, a limestone hill . It is a part of a cadastral compound of Valaska Bela - Homolka towns. When you get on the top you experience a magnificent view and also interesting rock formation not only on the top but also around. If you want more you can descend to the town of Valaská Bela where a unique glass-making open-air museum Skelny sen is located. The tourist trails would take you to other interesting towns around, for instance to the town of Cicmany known for its well-preserved folk architecture complex. Also, you can experince a very nice walk if you go to the neighboring town of Temes. Easy walk gets bit harder when you ascent to the Temes rock. This top is located between Male Magury and Nitricka valley. In 1986, it was declared a natural reservation.
Bike trails in the region of Horni Nitra
Even those who love biking wouldn’t bore here. The region of Horna Nitra offers a coherent complex of bike trails that would take you to the most attractive and most interesting places in the region. The trail Medzihorím, Bojnicky trail and the Hornonitrianska highway are among the most important trails there. Except of the aforementioned there are also shorter bike trails that are interconnected
So do not hesitate, get on your tourist boots, mount your two-wheeled steed or persuade your friends and move off to explore this splendid part of Slovakia.
