The ruin of medieval fortress on limestone rock is perhaps on any symbol related to the town of Sümeg which is set on Balaton’s northwestern shore. Archeological findings show us that once this region was very prosperous, especially in late Bronze age. Sümeg castle is a castle that is easy to access unlike other castles in Hungary. The access road is short yet steep. Those who don’t want to go slowly can pay a small fee for a castle taxi only to be at the gates couple of minutes later. Upon reconstruction the complex is a medieval amusement park. For instance, knight tournaments are held there.
