Less than 100 km from Bratislava you will find historically significant Nitra, it was even one of the centers of the Great Moravian Empire. The dominant feature is certainly the Nitra Castle, in whose area there are several important monuments - the Romanesque Basilica of St. Jimrama or Bishop's Palace. Under the castle you will find the church and monastery of St. Peter and Paul and the Church of the Virgin Mary. However, it is worth mentioning, because the city is surrounded by one of the Slovak wine regions and here begins the Ponitří Protected Landscape Area.
The village of Topolčianky, surrounded by the slopes of Pohronský Inovec and the Tríbeč Mountains, stretches along the old Slavic road that led from the lower Pohronie to the upper Nitra. The town with more than 2800 inhabitants offers to see a beautiful castle, the National Stud Farm and the Zubří Zoo. So let's go for a walk.
In the southwestern Slovakia lies the Nitra Region, whose natural border with Hungary is the Danube River. It is one of the warmest and at the same time one of the driest areas in Slovakia.
