SK, Liptovska Mara Dam – Paradise for Those Who Love Water Sports and Swimming

But there are also those who have never been here and maybe today's article inspires so much that instead of regretting that they for some reason this did not travel to the sea, rather hop on a bus, train, bike, or collapses into a family of car and go to our " Liptovske Sea ". Even a long weekend on the banks of the water reservoir in beautiful nature of Liptov can do miracles with a tired person.

Several technical specs
At the beginning it might be good to mention some basic technical data of this vast artificial water reservoir, which contains the largest volume of water Slovakia. This water project, which was built between the years 1965-1975, is part of a system of dams calledVazska cascade. During the construction of Liptovska Mara many villages of the Liptov Region were completely flooded and some partially. Even the name of this water tank is a kind of memory of one of the villages that disappeared under the surface of the reservoir. The most valuable buildings of the flooded villages were fortunately transferred to a nearby museum in Pribylina (for example Gothic-Renaissance mansion of Parizovce, genuine Gothic church at Liptovska Mara and Sielnica or log houses rare folk architecture). The only exception is fully wood articular evangelical church of Paludza, one of the largest wooden buildings in Central Europe, which have been delegated to the edge of the village of Svaty Kriz - Lazisko. Due to construction Liptovska Mary nearly 1,000 families were displaced, which means more than 4,000 inhabitants. The main purpose of the dam, which can hold over 360 million cubic meters of water, is flood protection. But it is also used for power generation and ultimately for recreational purposes. Every year in the fresh air Liptovsky relax thousand Slovaks and foreign holidaymakers.

Improving services
They lured not only to the water tank with many sports facilities, but also constantly improving and expanding services in the area. Today is really not a problem to choose accommodation or catering facilities according to your wishes. People who love camping, families, or groups of young people looking for holiday accommodation in separate houses will find what they seek here. But even the most demanding clients who prefer quality services in good hotels.

Relax, sport and fun
The main attractions are certainly swimming, surfing, sailing, windsurfing , boating, water cycling, water skiing or fishing . In summer, however, Liptovska Mara is not only pleasantly refreshing and cool, but if you are not afraid, you there is a number of attractions that would properly stimulate your adrenaline level. For example, you can try different inflatable toys on which you can ride at breakneck speed motorboat, or ride on a jet ski , or extremely popular parasailing . New to the wide range of adrenalin attractions is a few minutes of flying above the water , which is commonly known as flybord . We have stopped here just for a short break. We wish we had more time to enjoy at least some of the wide range of water attractions. But already it is clear to me that if we go the next time around, we'll have to plan at least one night on the banks of Liptovska Mara. The calm, the beautiful nature around and all this adrenaline-pumping fun, which clears completely one’s head. This is just great.
