The Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Slovakia as well were hit with floods last week. Floods were stronger than 10, 100 and somewhere even 1000 years records. In Slovakia the situation was especially critical in the area of Devin in Bratislava, Old Town and also along theRiver Danube, around Gabcikovo, Komarno and Sturov. Thanks to great information service the rescue services and water managers managed to install necessary anti-flood barriers and prepare their regions for floods. This resulted in lower damage than in the devastating 2002 floods. However, regardless this cleaning and drying flooded areas will take several weeks at least. The Infoglobe website gives you a photogallery of the Danube in Bratislava in the time of critical water level and its decline.

Presidential garden was the point of interest we saw last week. Today we see another great place in Bratislava - the city walls. They take you to the Middle Ages for free and also shelter you from the heat of summer.
We crossed the new Old Bridge (the last week's article) and reached Danube's right riverbank, the borrough of Petrzalka. After this beautiful bridge, two beautiful landmarks caught our attention. The first one was the water tower. The other a noise coming from around the riverbank.
We continue in our walks through green spots of Bratislava even today. We will visit only recently opened Waterworks Garden. The garden is located nearby the Danube River in Karlova Ves city borrough.
There are many interesting parks, gardens, or other green areas around the historical center of Bratislava. People can rest there in the nature. However, the city center is not necessarily laid out in stone.
Today we would like to invite you for a nice spring walk. We visit Rusovc, a borough of Bratislava. There is a mansion, archeological excavation site (Gerulata) and beautiful nature.
One Saturday in March, we set out to exploring our capital, Bratislava. We had learned that it has a new landmark. It is devoted not only to tourists from abroad, but mostly to locals. The attraction is the so-called Street of Light.
In the last article of our bike trip we move from the largest baroque castle compound in Austria, Schloss Hof, across new Bikebridge of Liberty, to the city districts of Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava.
Apocalypse in the Czech Republic – this could be a one name for events of couple of last days. Large floods hit the Czech Republic with a similar intensity as in the year 2002. That year the water level was so high as it was a hundred year water. The Czech Republic was better prepared than before, despite all of effort water caused heavy damages in the country.
Bike – a simple machine on two wheels; we decided to use it during our summer vacation to explore beauties of nature, history of various places and last but not least to get fitter. Come with us to this unusual bike trip, which starts at the largest housing development, Petrzalka, and ends in Wolfsthal, a picturesque Austrian village.
Petrzalka is the largest and densest district in Bratislava, also it is the largest housing development in central Europe. Many called it a “concrete jungle” in the past, however, today there is not only vast greenery but also several interesting natural sights located just among houses or nearby.
Recently, unique Dinosaurium exhibition welcomed its first visitors, and our team was there. The exhibition is one of the largest collections of dinosaur skeletons in the world.
