Lower Austria: Summer Refreshment, Entertaining Trips, Unique Experiences in the Mountains II
We continue in giving you tips for treks. Last week we enjoyed beautiful Lower-Austrian mountains and towns. Our first stop is one of the most popular cabins in Lower Austria. It is situated in Göstling and it is called ÖTK Schutzhaus Hochkar. Once you get there you can expect cozy accommodation and only the best cuisine.
The climb up to Hockar is a wonderful experience. Join the 360° Skytour Hochkar trail which almost reaches the clouds. It consists of lookout platforms and hanging bridges. Another tip for you is a trek across alpine marshlands of Leckermoos. A 700-year inn at the hillside of Hochkar will charm you. There is great wellness facility cabin-style. They offer great massages, and Ayurveda procedures. Near the inn in the town of Mendlingtal, there is the oldest channel for transporting wood down the mountain. Nearthis channel, there is Erlebniswelt Mendlingtal, an amusement park. It is definitely worth a visit.
To families with children we recommend one of the most popular points of interest - Herrgottschnitzer-Franz-Kaupe-Hütte cabin. It is situated at 1 318 m. While climbing up to the cabin which takes 2 hours you can enjoy many beautiful views. During these two hours you walk the trail to Kampstein (Familien Erlebnisweg Kampstein) and the themed ant trailCoronas Ameisenpfad. Children are going to love 15 stops along this trail. Those who walk this trail are going to reach the pond. There is "the realm of relax" including deck chairs and benches wait for those who reach the pond.
Be sure to visit the largest Lower-Austrian karst cave Hermannshöhle in Kirchbergu am Wechsel. This nature landmark is over 4 kilometers long. There are several floors and 8 different types of bats inhabit it. (You can visit the cave only accompanied by an English or German guide. English guided tours are available upon request.)
Mönichkirchen is mere 20 minutes of car ride from St. Corona. For instance, you can make a trek to Wetterkoglerhaus cabin. You hike there across amazing meadows and pass by mountain cabins (the so called Schwagien). It takes only 2 hours to get there.
Once you reach this place it is difficult to decide what is better: delicious food or magnificent 360-degree view over Semmering, Rax a Schneeberg which stretches down to Slovenian. Many don't want to leave this place. However, you can stay there over night at 1 743 meters of altitude.
There are more events to experience at the upper station of the 4-seat cable car Sonnenbahn. There is a scooter and three-wheeler trail. You can take a 3-kilometer trail from there. There are 13 enterteining stops. The name of the trail is Schaukelweg. You will experience something new for there are swings, skittles made of kettles, and relaxing hammock. Then you reach Almschaukel, a grandiose lookout platform. Enjoy there magnificent vista over the meadows and pastures. In Mönichkirchen, there is the largest climbers pak in the Vienna Alps.
Be sure to climb the summit of Ötscher. The summit is the symbol of Mostviertel region. We guarantee you that you will love the views, and fauna and flora of the Ötscher-Tormäuer nature reserve. With 170 km2 this nature reserve is even larger than Liechtenstein. Schutzhaus Vorderötscher cottage is also a place worthy making a trip. The trail goes along Stierwaschboden power plant and then it continues across impressive gorge of Ötschergräben down to Mirafälle and Schleierwasserfälle waterfalls. There nature demonstrates its mighty might.
You would be mistaken to think that these were last tips for treks to the mountains of Lower Austria. We save couple of them more for the next week.

Everything is hidden under a fluffy white blanket of snow and acts somewhat calmer, and even cleaner than the rest of the year. It is also a time of winter holidays in the mountains, meeting with friends over a glass of mulled wine or it is a time of a great cabbage soup, which will warm you up in this season.
