The Philippines, Malapascua Island – A Paradise of All Divers and Snorchling Enthusiasts
A small, inconspicuous island in northern Cebu is less commercial compared to the more popular islands. If you are looking for an escape from civilization and you want to relax in a quiet place where no one will disturb you, then you are right here. You will get a relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the island.
Where to Find the Island?
Malapascua Island is just an hour’s drive from Cebu Island’s Maya Harbor. You can get here from seven o'clock in the morning until the afternoon. If you miss the last boat, you can use private transport. Malapascua is a really small, only two kilometers long and one kilometer wide island. So you can explore it in a few hours. You can explore it on your own, if you want to go further, then you can hop on a motorbike or the so-called habal-habal (motorbike used as a taxi), which is a popular mode of transport on many small islands in the Philippines, especially in the southern provinces. There are also private excursions available, which can be arranged either at the hotel or at one of the local agencies.
The entry point on the island is the village of Barangay on Logon Beach. Here you will find everything you need for your stay, bars, hotels, scooter rentals, restaurants, diving centers and travel agencies. Don't forget to bring enough cash with you! There are no ATMs on the island and most places do not even accept credit cards, and if so, they charge quite high fees.
Treshers Sharks Are Island´s Celebrities
The island is literally a paradise for all divers and snorkeling enthusiasts. Apart from the rich underwater world full of corals, it is the only place in the world that guarantees daily observation of a shark of this species. Fox sharks arrive on the local shore of the Monad Shoal every early morning and are cleaned from fish. The chances of seeing them here are really high. Doesn't that appeal to you? Nothing happens. You can simply relax in the crystal clear waters of Bounty and Logon Beaches or try a local massage on the beach. And when you're bored, go on a boat trip to the surrounding islands. Calanggama Island is an hour's favorite tourist destination. After landing on the island, you will feel like in paradise.
