France, Paris VII. – Square Around Center Pompidou

Published: 9.7.2014
Last week we had visited town-hall and moved also to Center Pompidou, a center of modern art. Today we will look around this building build inside-out. The building is named after French President Pompidou, who initiated its construction.

The National Center for Art and Culture of George Pompidou, the whole name of the building, was very controversial at first. The building is located in Beaubourg district. Annually it is visited over 5 million tourists. That is really pretty! Even up to 5 times more than they expected themselves designers.

Fairytale Fountain

Since we are building on this pompous talk last week, today we head to its surroundings. Once at the main entrance to the museum is the first squares, how else lined cafes and restaurants where you home, but also tourists at the time of our visit, enjoying a cup of coffee or lunch. In the middle of this square is literally fairytale fountain . Are you why fairytale-like? Because its surface is irregularly spaced up to 16 mechanical sculptures that move and spewing water sundry ways. These are indeed a colorful array of kitsch. Women pens, colorful parrot, snake-spinning and many other bizarre attracts attention to himself. The work was inspired by the music of Igor Stravinsky , after which the entire complex is named. This work was so unusual for us, that we are on the edge of a moment sat down and enjoyed a variety of sculptures so in accordance with the architecture of the Centre Pompidou.

Squares in French way

What was not in this line were two buildings standing on the other side of the square. One of which will literally graffiti wall, which was dominated by a huge head of Salvador Dali and next to it is the Gothic Church of St Medericus . Well, it wouldn’t be really French, though even in that. For us such combination of modern and history is really incomprehensible. As we later learned, in addition to the spiritual life of the church also serves for cultural purposes. Take place there concerts, theater performances and even contemporary art exhibition.

After enjoying the atmosphere of the square Stravinsky moved on to the main square, where nothing is. We noted that it is about intention, as this square adds itself Museum of Modern Art spatial dominance. Certainly those who love to take photos, appreciate the urban plan. Although this is the main square vacant, the edges were lined with food stalls and particular artists . It was our first close encounter with art in Paris. Most of the artists are paid to paint portraits and dominants of Paris, but there was an artist who cut hair of people passing by. This way you can easily get some futuristic hairstyle. Fortunately, we were able to avoid such embroidered.

From the Beaubourg district we headed down the aisle Rue Saint - Martin to the late-Gothic tower of St James . What we experienced there and where we went further, we will tell you in just one week.
