Region of Banská Bystrica - Slovakia
Banska Bystrica Region is located in south part of Central Slovakia, and with its extent of 9445 square kilometres is greatest area of the Republic. On south, it borders with Hungary, on west with Nitra and Trenčín regions, on north with Žilina and Prešov regions, and, finally, on east with Košice region.

Harmanec cave

Harmanecká Valley
Harmanec cave is situated in a valley of the same name, in south part of Velká Fatra Mountains, in Banská Bystrica Region. It belongs to most popular caves in Slovakia. Its surface is created with white limestone, so somewtimes, it is known as White Cave. Original spaces were established with action of underground waters. After complete inundation and following drop of water level, there were founded spaces in a form of domes, halls and pagodas. The cave has total length of 2763 metres, access section for public is 1020 metres long. The discovery of this cave is dated to 1932, when entrance corridor into Discovery Dome was digged out. Since 1950, the cave is open for public.
Decoration elements: appearance of white sintre, underground spaces are formed in a face of sintre domes (High Dome, Wandering Dome), sintre lakes, stalagmites. There were discoverd 11 sorts of bats in the cave.
