South from Liptovsky Mikulas, at the end of Demanovska valley there is the largest ski resort in Slovakia - Jasna Nizke Tatry. Almost every skier and snowboarder have heard about the ski resort. Not every, however, knows that nearby is located a beautiful glacial lake, the largest natural lake in the Low Tatras - Vrbicke pleso.
You can plan your visit in any period of the year. Its magic will always captivate you. Our trip to the Low Tatras was in the end of summer. We drove from Krakow, Poland. For we arrived in the afternoon and we were tired after several hours spent in car and felt tiredness from a wedding night of our friends, so we weren’t in a mood for a hike. We were accommodated in old but very nice hotel. With three hours until the dinner we took a walk around.
Vrbicke pleso is only about fifteen minutes of walk away from a parking lot below ski slopes in Bila Pout. Vrbicke pleso is located in upper west part of Demanovska valley at 1113 meters above the sea level, the lake covers 0,73 hectares. It is 115 meters long and 62 meters wide. In its lowest point it is 8 meters deep. It is a unique moraine lake that emerged after glacier on northern hills Chopku and Deresov disappeared. Its origin is similar to lakes in the High Tatras. To ensure stable water surface level the damns were adjusted on Vrbnicke pleso from which the Otupnianka River outflows. Because the lake has been experiencing vast growth of vegetation on its banks people have started worrying about decrease of the size of the lake, or its total perish. Due to this there are some incentives to start a project that would preserve Vrbnicke pleso. The lake was declared a natural sight in 1975.
Alpine air, beautiful view and calm water surface.
Back in the 1980’s you might ride a small boat on the lake. Hopefully they would return as they did on Strbske pleso. Today you can rest on wooden benches during your walk around Vrbicke pleso and enjoy calm water surface or beautiful views of the Low Tatras peaks. Quiet forest around and fresh alpine air are the true "refreshments".
Další výlety v okolí
The whole Low Tatras are crisscrossed with tourist trails. Even vicinity of Vrbicke Pleso isn’t exception. By good tourist trails you can get from Vrbicke Pleso to, for instance, to Demanovska Freedom Cave . If you take a blue trail you would get there after about 2,5 hours of walk.
We stayed sitting on a bench and enjoy our rest. There is nothing better than talking with beloved person on a romantic place.

High Tatras are often associated with winter holidays. With skis, mulled wine and views of the beautiful snow-capped mountains. In fact, this region is even nicer in summer and will certainly appeal to lovers of hiking and nature. Today we bring little inspiration.
Skialpinism has becoming increasingly popular. Hence we became interested in a relatively new book which contains a selection of the best skialpine rides in the mountains of Slovakia.
Those who love nature will sure agree with my following statement – the end of summer and beginning of autumn is the best period for tourism. Everything seems more beautiful and more quite because the tourist season is long gone and the winter season haven’t even began. Nature changed its clothes to more colorful one and you can see animals where you wouldn’t expect them – right on a tourist pathway.
We enjoyed several days in the Low Tatras despite the fact that weather was not good. Excited tourist and a man who loves mountain is hard to discourage, especially with only few rain drops that bring with them nice smell of mountain air. Our goal today was a tourist view platform above Pavcina Lehota town.

After a week we are back to Liptov. This time I will not tempt the no crazy adrenaline games, on the contrary, I invite you to the museum. But not just any do! Underground beneath the towers, as this tiny museum in Liptovsky Jan name, conceals an engaging exhibition that will introduce you to a life full of coins from birth in the depths of the earth after its birth in the mint.
After a visit in a small yet very interesting museum called the Underground below the Towers in Liptovsky Jan. The museum is focused on coins from their very beginnings deep below surface until they are actually made in the mint. We quickly moved from Janska Valley to see this. The guide from Stanisovska Cave had been waiting for us there.
