Ještěd TV Sender

On top of Ještěd Mountain, a hotel and TV-sender are to be found. In general, it is very interesting building of hyperbolic formation, forming one of Liberec dominants. The building was constructed in 1960, according to plans of architect Karel Hubáček (he was rewarded with Perret Prize). Since 29th September 2005, this construction was written into National Cultural Monuments´survey.
History
At the very beginning, there was and idea to construct two buildings on top of Ještěd Mountain. (a hotel and TV-sender). Basic stone was laid here on 30th July 1966. Rope-railway line from Horní Hanychov upstairs undergone complete reconstruction during time period when the buildings were built. Another cottage, known as Ještědka, was constructed in a gap of Černý vrch (Black Hill). Hotel was solemny open for public on 21st October 1973.
Building description
Hyperboloid, as a form of this building, was chosen, owing to prevailing local climate and weather conditions. So, the construction is 94 metres high, and is made from iron-concrete mass. Inside pillar is 41 metres high, diameter 4,4 metres. On its top, an antenne mast is placed. TV sender antenne is 17 metres high.
In lower floors of the building, there are to be found technical hinterland, machine-room and operating rooms. In higher fllors, round view terrace is situated, including entrances into restaurant and hotel. Further, you can find here entrance hall, kiosk, restaurant and hotel rooms. Further higher stages are destined for connecting technics purposes.
