REGION OF SOUTH BOHEMIA

As to the greatness, it is the second bigger region of the country. It is a region of forests, meadows, ponds, peatbogs, mountaneous range of Šumava (Bohemian Forest) and Novohradské hory (Novohradské Mountains) The biggest protected area is those of Šumava National Park.

South Bohemia is a popular and beautiful region. Cesky Krumlov is one of the most popular sites here. Yet every other village is just like it was taken from some fairy tale. A village square with gables is sort of a prototype of a classic Czech village. When you have a pond on the square then you can easily expect to see a water goblin making shoes out of willow. Holasovice is one such village. In 1998 it became a UNESCO site.

Many water surfaces make south Bohemia fabled. The region of Blatna is no exception. Today we go to Blatna. It and Cervena Lhota are among the most beautiful noble mansions around. The chateau is not solely the destination of the tourists. There is also an English-style park.

In the south of Bohemia (about 17 kilometers away from Jindrichuv Hradec) where beautiful nature meets romance there is one fabulous place Cervena Lhota which is a water castle. It is situated on a small rock island in the middle of a pond. Only the stone bridge connects it with the land.

It is windy outside. Yet it is no problem for people who love sports. A shore in-line trail with lamp stands makes an infrastructure between two Southbohemian towns - Frymburk and Lipno nad Vltavou.

It was fortunate for the nature around the Novohradske Mountains that people had little chance to change it in the last centure. This remote mountain range raises up to 1000 meters and German-speaking settlers lived there. However, after the WWII they were displaced. Moreover, the borderline regions became inaccessible. Once we omit the cruel thing of displacing former inhabitants, then nature benefited. Deep forests, clean air, nature untouched by the men. And still, after 25 years not many tourists have discovered this area, unlike Sumava.

There are many places in Slavonice where you can make your own mug, ie not actually make it, but decorate it. This is due to the fact that the famous village of Maříž, which is famous for the production of special author's ceramics, is located nearby. But it is not so long when no one knew this forgotten corner of the earth and no one was allowed to come here for 30 years.
