The north of Thailand consists, for the most part, of beautiful mountains that rise to over 2 000 meters above sea level. Here you will find waterfalls, karst caves, ethnic villages and secluded Buddhist temples. Let's now go together to the Chiang Dao National Park and at the same time to the 3rd highest mountain of Thailand.
The mountain range, less than 80 km north of Chiang Mai, keeps fascinating me. A huge piece of rock that rises up to 2225 meters above sea level from the flat Ping River Valley at an altitude of about 350 meters. Almost always partially shrouded in the clouds, from which one and the one of the rocky peaks can be seen here and there. Local sundowns and sunsets are among the most beautiful things you can experience in Thailand.
After Doi Inthanon and Doi Pha, the Doi Luang Chiang Dao Mountain, which is named after its name, boasts the title of the 3rd highest mountain of Thailand. To enjoy the vast vistas from the top, you will have to climb the whole mountain this time. Unlike the two mentioned peaks on the mountain, there is no road, not even a road that would go out on a motorbike. But it is said to be one of the most beautiful treks in Thailand.
Even if you do not feel like going out, you can still enjoy the National Park. One of the most frequent destinations is a network of local karst caves, some of which can be visited. Two are illuminated and fully prepared for your tour, and you can check out the next 3 caves after renting a gas lamp or a local guide. However, the cavemen estimate that the entire cave system extends deep into the massive mountain, with a total of about one hundred. In the cave, you will see a small shrine built here by a hermit who chose the cave as his own home.
Do not miss the temple and the Wat Tham Pha Plong Monastery near the caves. After hundreds of stairs, you climb to the complex of buildings at the foot of the mountain, waiting for you to see the typical gilded Buddhist rock and other cave shrines. Stop for a short bath in Pong Arng thermal springs and stroll through the jungle that boils down to life.
I recommend staying in the town of Chiang Dao overnight and taking a bit of a peaceful atmosphere here. It is as if the mountain has been a giant with its balanced energy, which has been here for millions of years and for millions of years to stand.

The climate in the mountains in the north of Thailand is very different to the south of the country. Mountains usually rise as high as 1500 meters. Temperatures can easily drop below 10 degrees Celsius in winter. That's why strawberries are grown here, for instance. The mountain climate is great for high-quality arabica coffee as well. About 50 kilometers from Chiang Mai town, there is a coffee plantation I went to visit. It was there where I finally realized how much work is behind one simple cup of coffee.
