heading (paragraph): Cities
No. of pictures: 30 pictures
We would like to invite you to a walk to Nový and Starý Smokovec which are part of the biggest town in Slovakia - the town of High Tatras. From pensions decorated with hundreds of blossoms we move through narrow stone sidewalks along well-known sanatoriums and health resorts to churches. From here we continue to the memorial of a natural disaster which not so long ago hit the whole area. And now we are in the centre of tourism in Slovakia. Beautiful and unique Tatranian architecture set in the diverse and sharp strip of Tatranian ridges will amuse you and you will feel respect to the nature and people living in these settlements, or rather parts of town.

Vysoke Tatra sis one of the most beautiful nature gems in Slovakia. These high mountains lure tourists for their grandiosity, monumentality and immesurable beauty of their deep valleys and sharp pyramidal peaks reaching up to the skies. Jehneci pyramidal peak (2 230 m) one of the accessible summits in the High Tatras. The climb is amazing and valuable experience.
Last week, we introduced to you a publication on the most beautiful biking routes in the land below the Tatra Mountains. We continue in our journey to discover Slovakia even today. This time we take on towns.
This week we visit the Tatras as well. However, their cognition will no longer be child's eyes, but rather a factual way. We will focus on their history, monuments, nature and tourism through a new and richly illustrated tourist guide - Tatra - from the family publishing house Dajama.
If you are planning a trip with your kids, the Tatras are an ideal destination, as well as a new book from the family owned publishing house Dajama. There are 25 field trips, which belong to the most interesting places in the Tatras, especially from the perspective of children.
The winter in the Tatras is in full swing and we would like to present you a very interesting publication that captures the complete crossing of the ridge of the High Tatras in winter conditions. And without leaving out heavy climbing peaks or entire ridge sections (in 1974).
The fact that the Polish mountains are often neglected by the Czechs is pity. However, mountains in Poland are comparable to the Krkonose or the Tatras in Slovakia. However, some consider Poland to be cheaper. We consider it a must go!
In the northeastern cornerof Slovakia, in the region of Presov, you will discover the small town of Stara Lubovna. A majestic castle of the same name rises above the town.. Let us now visit it together and see the exhibition in the Museum of Folk Architecture.
It is not much long since we have visited the town of Svit, famous for its Bata brick houses. Then we said that we would like to return here. This summer it happened. Instead of exploring the town we set off in the nature.
The Tatranian National Park offers many beauties. High and steep mountains, deep valleys, majestic falls, unseen beautiful fauna and flora and also beautiful things hidden in depths of the area such as various caves. Only one of them, though, is open to the public.
In Stary Smokovec in the High Tatras there was ceremonial opening of the Alpine Clubhouse in the beginning of May. It is a great place for everyone who likes being in mountains. The Clubhouse interconnects relaxation, knowledge and services not only for mountaineers.
Perhaps every one of us has visited the High Tatras. Beautiful enchanting nature, noble and sharp peaks of mountains or crystal clear lakes give the place its unique feeling that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Today alpine cottages enrich this scene. We will examine their history on the following lines.
Every true Czechoslovak visited Štrbské Pleso. This Slovakian prides is located in High Tatras and is strictly demarcated by nature. It requires no physical endurance and despite cold it is a cozy place opened to everyone who comes to see it.
Again after two years had been held a popular and extraordinary Slovakian festival devoted to amateur production on mountains – Horalfest. Dozens of visitors, Slovakia movie premieres, interesting workshops, and amazing atmosphere – this is what enhanced the motto of the festival – Found yourself in mountains.
Tomorrow starts great and unique (in Slovakia) 7th year of Horalfest, which takes place in the High Tatras. The festival is devoted to amateur production on mountains and the event will take place in Teniscenter in Tatranská Lomnica during two following days (November 23rd and 24th 2012). The event is under the patronage of High Tatras mayor Ing. Ján Mokoš.
In the first part of articles about Tatra railway we wrote about the beginning of its history and we learned about the technical world unique -"Tatra intercity trolleybus." Today we will focus on the modern railway history from the early 20th century to the present.
Tatra electric railway as we know it today, keeps only a piece of the rich history of this unique monument. In the following lines we look at the development of the first trolley in the world to contemporary electrified railway.
In the second part of our series of articles on safety in the mountains we will deal with little Alps High Tatra, which are characteristic of their unique alpine mountains in Slovakia. Their articulation and slope are among the most dangerous pitfalls that ordinary visitors must overcome not only in winter.
Fall is perfect for walks in nature. Today we follow spa sidewalk, which is less known to the public, that we accidentally discovered in the High Tatras, in the village of Stary Smokovec.
Today our steps head to a Tatranian village located beneath the second highest peak in Slovakia. Lomnicky Stit. Tatranska Lomnica is one of the most beautiful areas of Vysoke Tatry city district. It hides not only rich architectural history, or the largest ski resort in the Tatras but also the new Ski museum.
I spent two day in the High Tatras while on my way from Kosice and east Slovakia. I was lucky to spend there the most beautiful days of autumn. Even though sun shined only in the morning the weather was very good. It did not rain, snow, and it was not cold nor hot. Perfect when you go to mountains.
Last week started an autumn in the town of Svit, and we will continue in it even today. We told you some basic facts about the foundation of one of Slovakia’s youngest towns. We walked among its typical brick houses and found there a mark pointing to a nature trail.
As many other places in the High Tatras (2314 meters) even Bystre Sedlo is not that well known among tourists. Perhaps, it is given to the fact that there is no cottage that would offer tourists some refreshments after being whole day on food. Or, perhaps, the route is not leading to any of the High Tatras’ peaks. There are only a few people but you will definitely enjoy your time in untouched Tatran nature.
Although winter is in full swing and snow inspires people to put on ski boots rather than hiking boots. However, it is time to schedule trips for the summer season. Those planning to go to the High Tatras, for example, may rise to one of the easternmost mountains shields, Velka Svistovka (2037 meters). Because the adjacent Kezmarska Biela Voda Valley could be walked through also in winter, many winter hikers will appreciate the following tip.
The one who loves adventure and is reasonably physically fit, undoubtedly would like a few tips about easy winter hikes Velka Studena Valley, located in the Slovak part of the High Tatras. A year-round open cottage, Zbojnicka Chata (1960 meters), which waits for us in this valley, offers a place to rest, refreshment and cozy accommodation. We can spend here a few days without getting away from the surrounding of Tatranian peaks. Keep in mind, however, that the motion in the Tatras in winter outside marked trails is very limited according to the TANAP rules!
Two weeks later we go again to the Tatras. This time we visit a small village of Tatranska Lesna. It is located almost in the middle on the road from Stary Smokovec and Tatranska Lomnica. On one side it borders with the Path of Freedom and from the other side with the mouth of Studena Valley.
Beauty and pain, this is an actual picture of highest Slovakian mountains. The gale which run about across Tatra Mountains, cut its non-effaced message into this well-known countryside.
City of Vysové Tatry is in terms of cadastral area the largest city in the Slovak Republic. It consists by fourteen settlements, of which perhaps the best known and most sought after tourist are two villages called Smokovec.
