SVK: High Tatra Mountains - Long Weekend Full Of Adventure I.
Just at the end of last year, I came to an understanding with my friend that this year's St. Valentine holiday we would prepare for our partners an unrepeatable experience in a form of so called „long weekend“ in High Tatra Mountains.
This time, it would not be a standard stay in the mountains, full of tiring tourist activity and sweated through our clothes, but, on the contrary, a romantic weekend, full of events, beautiful outlook, including a bit of adventure.
As we read in some literature that it could be possible to spend a night on top of Lomnický Peak, we decided that this could be ideal for realization of our plans. So, we started to gather all useful sources of information. To tell the truth, we were rather surprised, being informed about overnight price level (EUR 430 per night for an appartement, as this indication seemed to be a little exaggerated). Anyway, now, we did not regret at all any cent we invested.
But, let´s relate from the beginning: Just in January, we looked for a term which would be free.suitable for us. However, local tenant informed us that no convenient term-from Friday up to Saturday - would be vacant within February and March. So, we settled that we would reserve a night from Thursday up to Friday. Our relatives received the explanation that they would have to wait for receiving of their gifts later.
A Journey to High Tatra Mountains
Just on Wednesday evening, we packed our luggage, and our friend was informed about our intention, i.e. to take us there. So, Thursday in the early morning, we took our seat in the car and left Bratislava. Our trip was directed, first of all, to Hlohovec, where our fellow with his girl-friend expected us. Shortly afterthat, our trip passed quickly, in pleasant way, on highway up to Žilina. Here, we have got a phone-call, informing us about rather unpleasant fact:rope railway from Skalnate pleso up to Lomnický Peak is out of order, owing to hard sudden gust of wind, and so, provided we were on way, having another intentions in High Tatra, to change our planes, as there would be minimal chance that the weather forecast could change in the afternoon. You can imagine, how disappinted I was. Nevertheless, I did not express my feelings in open way, so, I informed my friend that we had to change to our B-plan, i.e.: provided the weather would not change, it would be better to look for some wellness hotel, where we could spend one night, and so, to use our leasure time. Anyway, our journey to Tatranska Lomnica was effecetd in totally changed atmosphere. As soon as High Tatra panorama appeared in front of us, all dull ideas suddenly went away. High Tatra Mountains are marvellous during any year season, and all persons who love nature, a look at the peaks, covered with snow, would resolutely improve their state of mind, for sure. After arrival to Tatranska Lomnica Ski Centre, I run to local info-centre office in order to find if something did not changed, by chance, in the meantime. However, the lady, sitting behind the table, shrugged her shoulders, informing me that (I did not wish to hear such message at all) the weather in High Tatras must be inscrutable, and, maybe, such strong morning wind would not be changed in the afternoon. So, we settled that, for the time being, we take our lunch in Lomnica, and in the afternoon, we check again, how the situation would improve. If no change would be ahead, so, we tried to find some suitable hotel or boarding house, in order to spend the night there. We entered the next restaurant and ordered some spicy meal (me and my friend something, healing our nerves), despite the fact that we took it for our „Tatra welcome drink.“ My friend ordered non-alcoholic beer, as he did not know, whether he would drive ahead to some hotel in the neighbourhood. After a toast and orders of our meals, (each of us chose different Slovak speciality, in order to taste a bit from each portion - as we regularly did it during our joint excursions), my phone called again. The lady from info-centre announced us that we would run to rope railway station as soon as possible that the wind stopped and we had our way free not only to Skalnate pleso, but also upstairs to Lomnický Peak! So, I immediately followed girl-waitress in the kitchen, asking her to cancel our meal-orders. We paid only for drinks, we consumed, assuring her that we visit the restaurant again next day, ordering a lunch, for sure. We run quickly to info-centre. After arrival, we paid for our stay for one night. This fee contained, except a night, spent in the highest situated room for four persons, also return ticket to Lomnický Peak, including change at Skalnate pleso, welcome drink (to be warmed), some welcome sweet chocolate, hors d´oeuvre and excellent dinner with a bottle of first-class wine, dessert, as well as „Midnight Cheese Bowl“, all these on the highest placed and all year round inhabitated spot of Slovakia - i.e. directly in the building of Lomnicky Peak observatory hotel. During our return journey, very rich breakfast expected on us in Skalnate pleso. This feature was for us a marvellous experience, because an outlook to hills and peaks flooded with sunrise, was really beautiful, beyond all description. All, we went through upstairs, on Lomnický Peak, would you read in our next chapter, within a week.

Keep in mind, however, that the motion in the Tatras in winter outside marked trails is very limited according to the TANAP rules!
Although winter is in full swing and snow inspires people to put on ski boots rather than hiking boots. However, it is time to schedule trips for the summer season. As many other places in the High Tatras (2314 meters) even Bystre Sedlo is not that well known among tourists. Perhaps, it is given to the fact that there is no cottage that would offer tourists some refreshments after being whole day on food.
