SK, Trenčín Region – The Kingdom of Matúš Čák III
We will be the first to visit the Mound of General Milan Rastislav Štefánik, unveiled on September 23, 1928. It stands on the Bradlo hill (543 m above sea level) in the Myjava Uplands. The majestic monument with four obelisks was built of travertine blocks and has a wonderful view of the surroundings. Today it is a place of remembrance on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of this important figure in our and European history, as well as a place to celebrate the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic. It has also become a popular destination for trips. There is a parking lot near the mound. You can also get here on a pleasant walk along marked hiking trails from Brezová pod Bradlom or from the village of Košariská.
Another place that is definitely worth a visit is the national cultural monument - Birth House of Ľudovít Štúr and Alexander Dubček. You can find it in the picturesque village Uhrovec, which lies on the border of Strážovské vrchy and Podunajská pahorkatina. At present, the house in which Ľudovít Štúr (thinker, politician and co-founder of standard Slovak) was born first and 106 years later Alexander Dubček (a prominent European politician) established a museum dedicated to the life and work of these important personalities in Slovak history. If you go here, be sure to visit Uhrovsky Castle. A walk to Jankův Vršek is also interesting. It is declared a nature reserve and at its top stands an impressive mound with a pylon and mausoleum. Every year, popular car uphill races are held here.
You should definitely not miss the spa town hidden under the Strážovské hills - Trenčianske Teplice. Thanks to the excellent natural sulfur thermal water and romantic location, it is one of the most visited spas in Slovakia. Thermal water and a wide range of treatment methods in the field of medical rehabilitation and physiatry is suitable mainly for the treatment and prevention of diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The town hides several monuments and attractions. For example, the luxurious Turkish bath Hammam, in the past intended only for the nobility. The landscaped spa park with a gurgling stream and Swan Lake is ideal for family walks. You will also find the Bridge of Fame, which, in addition to the statue of Charlie Chaplin, is decorated with tables with the names of celebrities.
We recommend to people who love animals to visit ZOO Bojnice. You will find here not only rare and endangered species of animals, but also a bit of peace in today's hectic times.
If you still have some time, be sure to visit Bojnice Castle, which is one of the most romantic and most visited monuments in Slovakia. The surroundings of the chateau are tastefully completed by an interesting character park with several rare trees and a remarkable natural travertine cave with two lakes, which is hidden under the castle.
And in a week we will go for a walk around the village of Mojtín, bathe in Zelená voda and set off on a bike.
