USA, Texas: Houston – Visiting Museums

Published: 9.8.2019
The fascinating visit to the Johnson Space Center is hard to be matched. Let's take another look at the city.

Perhaps the best place to start is the Museum District which includes a total of nineteen museums, and you can even get free entry to eleven. The best museums include the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Natural History, the Children's Museum of Houston, the Holocaust Museum and the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston.

Muzeum umění

The Art Museum is one of the largest museums in the United States. Its permanent collection includes 6 000 years of human history and 64 000 works collected on six continents; the exhibition area has an incredible 28 000 m2. In the forefront of everything we must mention the pre-Columbian art, which will give you the chance to get to know the original cultures of Central and South America before the sailor Christopher Columbus discovered them for Europeans in 1492.

Great attention is also paid to North American indigenous people. Collections include ceramics, dolls, textiles, baskets, masks or silver jewelry. The age of objects ranges from the 2nd millennium BC to the 1950s. The cultures of the Apache, Kwakwaka’wakw and Tlingit are represented here.

Muzeum umění

You may spend the whole day at the Art Museum. However, if you have strength, do not miss the Museum of Natural Sciences. It was founded exactly 110 years ago, with a generous intention to create an institution that would educate the people of Houston about education and science for free.

Muzeum přírodních věd

If you happen to go to Houston this year, be sure not to miss the museum just because there is a unique exhibition in honor of the first moon landing. Its central point is the 1: 500,000 model of the moon with projected high-resolution images of the lunar surface at 120 dpi. For example, you will see the Apollo 11 Lunar Module landing site and the far side of the Moon.

Muzeum přírodních věd

The museum is very successful and popular. Two million people visit it every year. In addition to the exhibition space there is a huge cinema hall with a screen size of 18 × 24 meters. For example, there is a great documentary about landing on the moon or a documentary about the Great Barrier Reef.

Before you go here, keep in mind that there may be quite a lot of crowds here, especially on weekends, so plan your visit on a weekday. Otherwise, as far as tickets are concerned, adults pay $ 25 for admission and students, children and people aged 62+ $ 16.

Corpus Christi is located in a bay north of Brownsville. The coastal city has become one of the most popular destinations in Texas in recent years, mainly due to its long beaches, rich flora and fauna. The area was inhabited in the first half of the 16th century, when the Spanish explorer Alonso Alvarez arrived and gave it a poetic name, which literally means the body of the Lord. Today, Corpus Christi is considered the Texas Riviera, as evidenced by the number of hotels and resorts that grew up like mushrooms after the rain.
