CZ, Mníšek pod Brdy: 50 km by Bike

Published: 15.10.2020
It's quite cold outside, but would you still like to go on a bike ride? The next bike trip we completed was around a picturesque landscape full of forests near Mníšek pod Brdy and it was definitely a very good choice.

If you are planning a bike trip from Prague, it is good to drive a short distance from the capital. We decided to park in Jíloviště. From here, a comfortable path awaits us through the grove to the Cukrák transmitter. It stands on the Kopanina hill in the northern part of the Brdy Highlands.

Hike to it is not difficult or long. We descend again to Jíloviště and our journey continues through the forest, a village called Řitka to Mníšek pod Brdy. The journey through the forest is quite undemanding and comfortable. In Řitka it is possible to take a break by the pond and have a snack in the local pub. We have another passage planned through the village of Kytín. From the grove we go directly to the village. The local brewery is definitely worth mentioning. The village of Kytín near Mníšek pod Brdy is mentioned in books about Kája Mařík. The statue of Kája Mařík, which is located in the village, was created by Jitka Kůsová as part of a sculpture symposium in 2014. The author used a photograph of her brother as a model for the statue.

Then we arrive at the Skalka complex. It is located on a wooded slope above the town of Mníšek pod Brdy. It is a place of pilgrimage with the church of St. Mary Magdalene, which was built in 1692–1693 by the builder Kryštof Dienzenhofer. From the church it is possible to see a beautiful view of the whole city and its surroundings. An educational trail with a restored Stations of the Cross with chapels from 1672 also leads to the Skalka hill from the town of Mníšek pod Brdy, so it is accessible from several places. We descend the hill to Mníšek, where we visit the local patisserie and taste delicious ice cream. There is also a castle, which is actually a rebuilt castle. It stands on a rock above the castle pond, although it is four-winged, it has only three towers. From the chateau on the road we continue through Čisovice, Bojov, Klínec and the village of Trnová back to Jíloviště.

It was pleasant to explore this region not far from the capital and its beauty on a mountain bike. Perhaps you will enjoy our bike trip and enjoy it as much as we do.
