Malá Fatra Mountains - Slovakia

Extent: 549 km²

This mountain range takes northwest  area of Slovakia in districts of Žilina, Martin, Čadca and Kysucké Nové Město. With its character, it belongs to the range of Fatra-Tatra area, which forms part of West Carpathian Mountains. Váh-river is dividing Malá Fatra Mountains into Kriváň-Fatra (northern part) and Lučanská Fatra (southern part).

Highest peak: Velký Kriváň (1709 m)

Surface: afforested - beech trees, fir-woods, pine-woods, rests of oak, plough-tails

Non-afforested: meadows

Relief: it is very rough, mountaneous and of highland character

Climatic area: predominantly colder

Malá Fatra Mountains belong, thanks to its scenery and nature beauties, to most popular and visited areas in Slovakia. The area was declared as National Park.

Martin - Slovakia

Martin is cultural as well as economical seat of Turiec, North Slovak Region. In 1994, the town was declared as Slovak Centre of National Culture. So, Martin became a very attractive target, not only for local tradition and its monuments.
