Pieniny - Slovakia
Extent: 46 km²
Pieniny is mostly limestone mountain range of East Beskydy, taking part of North Slovakia in district Stará Lubovňa. Its relief is montaneous and hilly with rising formations of white limestones, known as „bradla“.
Highest peak: Vysoké Skalky (1050 m).
Surface: is afforested, mixed pine-wood forests, meadows and glades take the areas where trees are missing.
Climatic zone: moderately warm and rather cold.
Pieniny area was declared as National Park in 1967. Canyon of Dunajec-river is most popular section of this area, where the river hollowed out its way throughout mountain range.
