SVK: Pribylina - Liptov Village Museum
If you will travel through north road-line from west to the east of Slovakia (or vice versa) and will not be in a hurry, and would like to reflect on, which sightseeings will be worth to visit (or where you wish to have a rest for relax), so we have one reference for you: would you leave the highway at exit Liptovsky Hrádok and drive in direction to Pribylina.
Pribylina Village and Podbanské Community
Kriváň Peak (2494 m) welcomes you soon (you can see it just from the highway but, no doubt, you get fascitaning outlook of complete mountain peak). The village of Pribylina is situated in Liptov County, which belongs to most beautiful spots and most popular regions of Slovakia. It is placed in an altitude of 745 metres of sea level, at confluence of Račkov torrent and Belá-river. Well-known community of Podbanske forms a part of Pribylina. It is frequent starting or final point, while undertaking tourist excursions into east sections of West Tatra or to west part of High Tatra Mountains. In the neighbourhood of Pribylina, well-known Tatra Valleys are placed, such as: Račkova, Jamnicka or Bystra, looked up not only by tourists but also by cyclists or lovers of ski running. So, Račkova Valley has small ski centre. We have chosen for short relax local Liptov Village Museum, situated shortly outside last village houses. In this connection, we wish to draw your attention to two facts, such as: would you drive strictly in accordance with traffic rules (you can meet there frequent police controls!), and if you go slowly, you can much better enjoy such unrepeatable outlook towards Kriváň, one of most beautiful peaks of Slovakia.
Liptov Village Museum in Pribylina was open for public in August 1991, after nearly twenty years of preparations and construction, as a branch of Liptov Museum in Ružomberok. The idea, as far as the creation of this museum type is concerned, was born within 1968-1969, within scope of real estates and movables rescue, as a consequence of complete evacuation the area where Liptovská Mara water work would be built, and several villages of Upper and Lower Liptov area must be destroyed. In past, although this region was originally rather very poor, it preserved their rich cultural and historical traditions. So, the museum managed to establish some model of the village, including its typical character of medioeval small town of this region. Once current way of life of Liptov inhabitants will be approached with a house of landless person (day -labourer) from Liptovská Sielnica or Černová, representing way of life of poorest stage of village population from the first third of 20th century. This museum house collection makes acquaintance the visitors not only with social or property relations of inhabitants in past but, on the other hand, it pictures even a certain situation from family life, mechanical or manufacturing activity of original people from such beautiful wooden houses. The visitors can follow way of life of craftsmen or farmers, looking at the interior of house, which was in ownership of tailor from Likavka, black-smith from Liptovská Kokava or wheelwright from Liptovská Sielnica. You can find there even a house of rich farmer, (he worked as village mayor). A building of village school is very interesting as well. In one object, you can see school class-room (common for all annual courses) including teacher´s flat. Except wooden inhabitated, manufacturing and farmers´ object, which represent typical signs of peoples´ architecture. Apart of this, you can see there even two rare medioeval stone objects, such as early Gothic Church of Virgin Mary from Liptovska Mara and small castle of Gothic-Renaissance style from the village of Parížovce. Further, forest railway line as well as education way, including many paths and information boards, belong to another section of museum area. So, this interesting nature museum is open for public all year rooun. Apart of this, many cultural actions, such as: Spring Celebrations, The Handicraft has its Golden Base or Children Day, are organized there.
