USA: Los Angeles – Hollywood

Published: 3.1.2014
From inglorious Compton with high levels of criminality (decreasing) we move to the place well-known to everyone – Hollywood.

Like other districts of Los Angeles , and Hollywood was originally a separate town. Even in the 1870’s it was a small village, which in 1910 became part of Los Angeles. At that time the film industry set its roots there. The first film In Old California was made in the same year. It was silent drama about a time when California was still part of Mexico.

Hollywood

Before the First World War, films were shot in various US cities Hollywood. But the filmmakers began to concentrate more and more just in Hollywood. In the 1920’s the golden era of film had started and it lasted until the 1960’s. Silent film gradually was replaced by movies with sound and thousands of new films were made in Hollywood at that time. Often they were westerns, comedies, musicals and animated films .

With proliferation of television in American households, number of people going to cinema decreased. Hollywood has therefore started to focus on producing entertainment that television could not offer. Hollywood increased budgets for films and changed the concept of the film itself. The line clearly defining the hero and the villain blurred or more creators played with the concept of time. Works as Hitchcock’s Psycho or Bonnie and Clyde . The 1970’s and 1980’s saw premiers of classics like Jaws , Exorcist , Star Wars , Godfather and others. Nowadays, production of Hollywood movies can easily exceed 100, 200 and $250 million dollars .

Hollywood

Such an aura of glamor and fame does necessarily form an idea of the uniqueness of this place and also raises the expectation that all of it will be visible externally.Hollywood

The center of Hollywood is Hollywood Boulevard , or rather its part known as the Walk of Fame , which was first introduced to the world in 1958. Walk of Fame got its name because there are stars placed on this sidewalk immortalizing popular artists. There are names like Elvis Presley , Brad Pitt , Steven Spielberg and many more. In total there are already 2,514 stars.

Despite the fact that the word "fame" figures in the name of the place, at least my impression of it was rather infamous . Both sides of the sidewalk are lined with souvenir shops and business centers, from which glow strongly neon lights and in the center of the Walk of Fame across from each other are two famous theater Chinese Theatre and El Capitan . All this belongs here, of course , but the local street artists or homeless spoiled my whole experience spoiled by constantly and sometimes quite aggressively trying to get money out of me. If you find yourself here and give my advice and do there as little eye contact as possible. Due to the large number of people you constantly hit someone, which also isn’t very good for overall experience.

To be continued...
